Offsite Procedures

Making Space Psychology enables clients to choose a site to meet. These sites will be in public areas around the locality of Fremantle and surrounding suburbs. We have places where we can meet and we can suggest these to you. If you have a preferred meeting place please discuss this with your therapist.

Of course, being outside and in public means that we need to consider some issues.

Usually highest on people’s list of concerns is that confidentiality may be compromised. Remember, you don’t have to meet offsite – it is an option. However, we are able to set up some tactics for managing privacy and confidentiality whilst offsite.

In the event that we bump into someone you or the therapist knows, there will be a stock line or explanation given to that person which has been pre-arranged with you to suit you. Perhaps “I’m walking with my friend and we are chatting, perhaps we can catch up later”.

If we are passing by a person or people, we might pause our talking momentarily. If we are sitting and others come to sit nearby, we can agree to move on.

Sometimes it can be helpful to agree that there are topics which are not suitable for offsite discussion. This might be because of the level of emotion they give rise to. This can be agreed in advance or at the time. We can take that talk back to the consulting room.

No amount of pre-emptive planning can mitigate against unsuitable weather for walking and talking therapy. If it’s too hot, too cold, too windy, too wet or anything else which doesn’t suit you, we will meet in the consulting room or re-arrange our appointment (with no costs associated).

If you dislike dogs or other incidental creatures we might meet along the way, let us know and we can take precautions. Otherwise, remember again, offsite sessions are an option and may not be for you.

All of these tactics will be discussed prior to your first offsite meeting.
